Portugal: Visible potential support socialist government by the Communist party
The Communist Party of Portugal is ready to support a government led by the Socialist Party (PS), said Wednesday the head of the party in an apparently shift the established practice of the party.
"A solution for forming a government, which inevitably includes the Socialists, will have our political support, to stop the repetition of this policy (austerity) of the center-right party", told reporters the head of the Communist Party Zeronimo de Souza after the meeting with his counterpart from the Socialist Party.
The attitude of the Communist Party might further complicate the efforts of the outgoing center-right government to form a new government after the victory in Sunday's election, but to secure an absolute majority in parliament.
Earlier, Pedro Passos Coelho, performing debts Prime Minister, called for discussions on possible cooperation chief Socialist Antonio Costa. But Costa said that his party will not participate in a coalition government with the center-right and said it would proceed with discussions with the leaders of the two parties of the extreme left (the Bloc of Left and the alliance of the Communist Party with the Greens) who oppose the austerity policies. Along with the Socialists can gather a parliamentary majority.
In the new parliament of Portugal of 230 parliamentary seats, the center brings together 104 seats, the Socialists 85, the Left Bloc 19 and the Communist Party 17.
