Putin's soaring popularity after surgery in Syria
Successive record refutes the acceptance rate of Russian President Vladimir Putin has reached almost 90%, mainly as a result of his decision to launch air strikes against Islamic militants in Syria, reported today the state company Russian polls.
The Russian Centre for Research of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) said the popularity of Putin reached 89.9% in October, up from the previous high of 89.1% in June. In January 2012, he had placed the popularity of the Russian president to 58.8%.
"Such a high level of support for the work of the Russian president is connected, firstly, with the events in Syria, the Russian air strikes on terrorist positions there," he said in a statement the VTsIOM.
The Air Force of Russia has made more than 700 outlets against more than 690 targets in Syria from 30 September, a campaign in which the state television has given huge coverage.
Before the air strikes, opinion polls showed that the Russians were very wary of the dangers of mixing the Kremlin in the Middle East. A poll conducted earlier this month, however, showed that 72% have a broadly positive opinion for the Russian air campaign.
Putin, the third presidential term of which expires in 2018, enjoys a popularity rate above 80% for more than eighteen months, reported VTsIOM.
The other main country's polling institute, the Centre Levada, not associated with the Kremlin, has also recorded strong support for Putin, saying that acceptance rate was 83% in August this year.
The VTsIOM said that the figure of Putin began to record a significant increase since the spring of last year, a period that coincides with the annexation of the Crimean peninsula of Ukraine to Russia.
Putin, as the pleas and his works dominate the public television, from where updated the vast majority of Russians, has not yet said whether he intends to be a candidate for a fourth presidential term in 2018. If so decides, could remain in power until 2024, says the agency Reuters.
The VTsIOM interviewed 1,600 people in 130 different regions of Russia in the period October 17-18. He said that the margin of error is not greater than plus / minus 3.5%.
