The president of the Ivory Coast SALT Utara, 73 years, was re-elected for a second five-year term as expected already in the first round of presidential elections held on October 25 in the country, according to official results announced today by the Independent Electoral Commission.
Based on the final results, the Ouatara won 83.66% of votes in the elections, with turnout reaching 54.63%, as the opposition party had urged supporters to boycott, according to the Athens agency.
The opposition Popular Front of the Ivory Coast (FPI), which was founded by the former president of the country Laurent Gbagbo, in Pascal Afi Ngkesan only won 9.29% of votes.
A portion of the FPI had called for a boycott of the elections in the name of Gbagbo, the great absentee voting, who is awaiting trial for crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
