In. General: There are plans for Turkey to change its foreign legislation for migrants
O ambassador of Turkey to the EU Selim Genel, in an interview with the website EUOBSERVER, says Turkey has no intention to change its internal legislation for migrants who returned to Turkey, noting that existing in Turkey for protection rules are adequate both for the Syrians and for non-Syrians.
"We believe this is a rather false argument, the debate whether Turkey is a safe third country, this, forgive the expression is nonsense (bullshit)», he says.
Asked however if Ankara will accept any kind of supervision by the EU, the characteristics Genel answered: "No, no, no, not again."
He says Turkey does not understand why the EU is interested in improving protection standards only for those who returned to Turkey, unlike all those already in the country.
It also states that the Syrians returned from Greece to Turkey will retain the temporary protection regime and that Afghans and Iraqis will retain the same rights already before the deal - nothing more, nothing less. While eg the Syrians will be allowed to work, Afghans and Iraqis will not have this feature. This will not change, he stated, according to the Athens Press Agency.
"We are not pushing [Iraqis] back to Iraq if they are at risk and that is why we have 300,000," he said.
The Genel even mentioned the issue of creating "safe zone" in northern Syria, a plan which EU officials have characterized previously unattainable.
"Let's say we have a safe zone, then we can use 3 billion. Euro European aid and there. This way will not only help the Syrians in Turkey, but also the Syrians in northern Syria, "he says.
