More than 56 million people in 17 countries suffering the effects of prolonged conflict and struggle to find food, trapped in a "vicious" circle of violence and famine, reported two United Nations agencies.
The conflict is the main cause of starvation because forcing people to leave their homes and their fields and distorts the operation of the markets, causing an increase in food prices.
The World Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Nutrition Program (WFP) of the UN reported that in 17 countries the violence significantly affects access to food.
These countries are Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, Iraq, Burundi, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Somalia, South Sudan , Sudan, Haiti, Colombia and Afghanistan.
