He unanimously approved the nomination of Wolfgang Schäuble for the post of President of the Federal Parliament, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU / CSU), at this evening's closed session.
Mr Schäuble's election to Germany's second-year office will take place during the first plenary session on 24 October, when the new legislature begins. They have already announced that both the Social Democrats (SPD) and the Liberals (FDP) will vote for it.
The duties of the Transitional Finance Minister until the formation of the new government will, according to all indications, be taken over by Chancellor Petter Almaimer.
