A dead and thirty injured are a bomb blasting report during events marking the 61st anniversary of the founding of the Islean city in the southern part of the Philippines, the authorities said.
This is the second attack in the area in about a month, while two more bombs were discovered and neutralized by experts, according to the city's press office. The attack took place near a nightclub and triggered panic scenes. So far, no organization has taken responsibility, but suspicions fall on Islamic rebels who have been operating for decades in the south of the archipelago whose majority of the inhabitants are Catholic.
Less than a month ago, an explosion in a trapped van at a military checkpoint on the neighboring Basilan Island caused 10 deaths. The Islamic State assumed the responsibility then.
Country President Rodrigo Duarte has declared a military law in the southern part of the country until the end of the year following the occupation of the city of Maragua by activist friends in the Islamic State.
These two attacks in less than a month come immediately after the law enters into force to grant greater autonomy to the Muslim minority in the hope of ending the uprising that left more than 100,000 dead, according to a government.
