Libya: The German navy rescued 615 refugees



The German Navy announced today that yesterday rescued off the 615 Libyan refugees and immigrants in danger when trying to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe.

According to the Italian Coast Guard, which coordinates rescue operations off the coast of Libya, the total number of refugees and immigrants who were rescued yesterday amounts to 951, among which are the 615 rescued German navy, and 227 who rescued the Italian.

The 615 refugees and migrants who were rescued yesterday by the German navy from 11:30 to 21:00 CET as aboard four inflatable in distress, boarded in Frankfurt-am-Main board and expected to land today at 14:00 GMT Sicily, according to the Athens Press Agency.

According to the UN High Commission for Refugees, a total of 9495 refugees and migrants have arrived in Italy by sea since the beginning of the year.

The average number of arrivals in Italy amounted to 465 a day in 2014 and 410 in 2015.

Since making the weather is expected to increase the wave of refugees and migrants to be attempting to cross the Mediterranean from Libya to Italy, while the bulk of immigrants crossing the Sea to go from Turkey to Greece ( 143 205 from 1 January).
