Boris Johnson: The EU follows the path of Hitler and is doomed

Boris Johnson, head of the campaign for Britain from the European Union retirement ahead of the referendum on this issue, argued in an interview that the EU follows the path of Adolf Hitler and Napoleon, trying to create a European superstate.

Johnson stated in the same interview, published in the current issue of the newspaper The Sunday Telegraph, that the EU suffers from a lack of democracy and centralism and is doomed to fail.

"Napoleon, Hitler, several people tried to do the same thing, and had a tragic end," Johnson said in an interview.

"The EU is an attempt to do the same thing with different methods. But basically what it lacks is the eternal problem that there is a strong belief in the ideal of Europe, "added the conservative former mayor of London.

"There is no power which respect or understand everyone. And this causes the huge deficit of democracy, "he continued.

Johnson, one of the candidates to succeed Prime Minister David Cameron in the leadership of the Tories; whenever such a question is raised; it has become one of the most important voices of the campaign in favor of the UK's withdrawal from the EU ahead of the referendum of June 23 .

Cameron, leader of the campaign for Britain to remain in the EU, arguing that the country is safer, has more influence and enjoy greater prosperity by staying in Europe.

But a poll published Saturday showed that twice as many voters thinks Johnson is more likely to tell the truth about the EU than that believes itself to Cameron.

As only six weeks remaining to the referendum, the British remain divided in two on the issue, according to other polls.

In his interview in Santa Telegraph, Johnson said he wants the British to become "Europe's heroes" again, using a jargon that refers, as the newspaper noted, in that of Winston Churchill, the British Prime Minister during the Second World War.

Johnson also argued that tensions between the EU Member States have allowed Germany to increase its power, to "conquer" the Italian economy and to "destroy" the Greece.
