At least one student dead and 14 injured in an armed attack at the American University in Kabul


Gunmen attacked the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul today and heard explosions and fire weapons through on-site higher education institution, as stated by a spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry and a student.

"Many gunmen attacked the American University in Kabul and there are reports of gunfire guns and explosions," said the spokesman. The perpetrators of the attack "came in the building complex" which were "foreign teachers and hundreds of students," he explained.

Ahmed Sahiron, a student at American University, said by telephone told Reuters news agency that the students are trapped.

"We are stranded in our class and heard bursts of fire," he said.

A student who spoke to AFP also said that he and his fellow students are holed up in a classroom and heard "explosions and gunfire near."
