At least 20 dead from polar temperatures across Europe


Cold wave today sweeps many European countries, where arctic temperatures prevailing resulted in the deaths of at least 17 people in Poland and Italy, while Istanbul has been covered by a thick layer of snow. Moscow side seen most frozen Christmas last 120 years, with mercury have "dive" at about -30 degrees Celsius during the night as reported in news agency RIA Novosti.

At least 10 people have died from the cold over two days in Poland where temperatures below -20 degrees Celsius in some areas, today announced the Government National Security Centre (RCB). The toll is expected to rise this weekend, as the mercury will remain below -20 degrees Celsius.

In Italy, two Poles are among the seven people who died from the cold wave affecting the country since Friday. Among the victims are a 5 Homelessness, including two Poles, despite the measures taken by the authorities since last week to protect them before dropping the temperature up to -10 degrees Celsius in the case.

Cold spell sweeps from yesterday and the Balkans where the temperature dropped to -27 degrees Celsius, especially in mountain areas of Bosnia and southern and eastern Serbia.
