Gabriel proposes Schultz as Merkel's challenger for the chancellery in the elections

The head of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) Sigmar Gabriel announced today that it will not claim the chancellorship of Angela Merkel in the elections on September 24 and that proposed as an opponent of the current Chancellor, former President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz.

"If I were a candidate, it fails, and together with me and the SPD», he told Stern magazine Gabriel, who is also Vice President and the Social Democratic Party and currently has a very low rate in the polls. He added that Schultz is clearly more likely to be elected chancellor.

According to sources at the meeting of the SPD executive, in which Gabriel announced his decision, the head of the Social Democrats explained how the world connects with the grand coalition (Christian Democrats and Social Democrats) and that polls show that people do not want this .
