Brazil: In trial referred Dilma Rousseff

The Brazilian Senate committee which is responsible for the referral of temporarily apomakryntheisas the presidency Dilmun Rousseff on trial for falsifying data on deficit approved referral paving the way for the launching.

The committee has 21 members, voted by 14 votes to 5 in favor of Rousseff referral to trial because allegedly falsified data for the deficit in the election campaign in 2014, when he promised to increase public spending. The result was announced by chairman of Raimounto Pound committee, promoter interim president Michel Temer.

The referral to trial and the final removal from power would mark the end of 13 years of rule by the center-left Workers Party (PT). Along with a series of corruption scandals, the referral process escalated the most severe political crisis in Brazil for decades, while the country was preparing to host the Olympics.

The political crisis is the main factor that pushed most foreign leaders to avoid to go to Brazil for the opening ceremony. Only 28 heads of state and government have confirmed they will be present, far fewer than the 50 expected by Brasilia.

The plenary session of the Senate shall announce a vote on Thursday whether to accept the charges and if so the trial will begin.

The trial of Rousseff to the full Senate is expected to close in late August, a few days after the conclusion of the games.
