Bashar al Assad: The worst of the war is now behind us

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has said he believes that the worst of the war raging in his country is now past, and on the front government forces are gaining ground with the help of their Russian allies.

The Syrian army and its allies have regained control over several months, especially the second largest city in the country, Aleppo after many years of fighting.

"The situation is evolving today in the right direction (...) because we have imposed on terrorists to be defeated," Assad confirmed in an interview given by Damascus to the Indian television network WION.

"Besides the West (...) and her allies, her puppets are massively supporting these extremists, I'm sure the worst are now behind us," Syros said in a recent interview with the state television network Syria.

During the interview, Basar al Assad has denied any responsibility for the chemical attack in Han Sheikhun in the province of Idlib, which occurred in April and claimed the lives of 88 people among them 31 children, according to the NGO Syrian Human Observer Rights.
