The "United Russia" won an absolute majority of seats

The party of President Vladimir Putin's United Russia won overwhelmingly in the elections held yesterday, ensuring the absolute majority and the largest number of seats after its founding in 2001.

The only problem for the Kremlin, however, was the low turnout, an indication, according to AFP, that some Russians indifferent to the elections or thought they had declared in advance. According to the Election Commission, only 47.8% of voters went to the polls, compared to 60% in the previous parliamentary elections held in December 2011.

The party United Russia, supported during the election campaign from the state media, secured the absolute majority, about 54% of the votes after counting almost 93% of the ballots, such as the Central Election Commission announced today.

But the electoral system; when the analog half over the majority half; strengthened control of parliament from the formation adjacent to the Kremlin. Projected after the partial count, the United Russia seems to provide at least 343 of the 450 seats in the Duma, the lower house of Parliament, against 238 earlier.

With the support of two thirds or more of the Members, the Kremlin will have an unprecedented control of the Duma and can still be easier to ensure the adoption of constitutional changes.

The Liberal Democratic Party (LDPR, far right) and the Communist Party receiving, respectively, 13.2% and 13.5%. The LDPR very populist Vladimir Zhirinovsky improved rates of almost three percentage points compared with 2011, while the Communists lost more than five percentage points compared to the previous parliamentary elections. The party A Just Russia, facing the Kremlin, gaining 6.2% and also ensures the entrance to the Duma.
