Germany: Wins ground the center-left majority, reducing the prospects of Merkel


Three German parties leaning left today are able to gain enough support combined to oust Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel in the September elections, according to a poll by INSA institute published in Bild newspaper today.

The newspaper reported before the publication that was the first time after a "long time" that a coalition of parties leftmost center could garner enough votes to evict the Christian Democratic Party (CDU) from power.

The three parties have enough votes to form a coalition after the last elections in 2013 but chose not to rally the forces due to the continuing reaction of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in partnerships involving the hardline Left Party (Linke). After that the support of potential voters fell for all three parties prior to the poll INSA far from a majority.

According to the poll, the Social Democrats could squeeze 30 to 31%, which has not changed since last week. The Left could win one also unchanged 10% while the Greens appeared stable, with a 7%, bringing the total percentage of the three leftist parties at 48%.

This means that it fell short only 47% of the vote to be shared between the other three parties are expected to exceed the 5% threshold to enter the next parliament, according to the poll 2,028 people.

The Christian Democratic Party and the cooperating mugs party would win 30% of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) 5% and the rest, small parties below the threshold of 5%, according to the poll.
