Hungary: Demonstration for stopping movement of opposition newspaper Nepszabadsag
Thousands of Hungarian citizens marched tonight in Budapest protesting to stop the movement of the large oppositional newspaper Nepszabadsag denouncing threat to press freedom.
The Mediaworks Group announced today that interrupts the edition of the newspaper due to significant financial losses.
But civil rights defense organizations consider that the newspaper was closed for keeping critical of Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his government and called for a rally in front of the parliament building.
"Today one of the last opposition newspapers simply silenced 'refers to the report posted on Facebook.
"The sudden interruption of circulation of Nepszabadsag a worrying precedent. I stand in solidarity with Hungarians protest today, "he wrote on Twitter the president of the European Parliament Martin Schulz.
