Turkey's official condemnation of episodes during President Erdogan's visit calls for US MEPs


Outstanding US MEPs want the House of Representatives to officially condemn the violent intervention of Turkish security staff members Recep Tayyip Erdogan against people who participated in a demonstration against the Turkish president during his visit to Washington, Of the Congress.

The heads of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House and the Republican and Democratic leaders in the House back a resolution condemning the violence against peaceful demonstrators and calling on the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

The resolution was tabled by Ed Rohde, Republican chairman of the House of Representatives' Foreign Affairs Committee, Democrat, Member of the House, Eliot Engel, Republican Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Democratic Majority Leader Steny Hoyer. The resolution also calls for no measures to be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The violent clashes broke out on May 16 in front of the residence of Turkey's ambassador to Washington, Serdar Killi, which President Erdogan visited after his first meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House.

At least 11 people were injured in the clashes, two of them serious, who needed to be hospitalized.
