The American P. Gkotmeler assumes number 2 to NATO, the first woman in this position

The American Rose Gkotmeler, an official with extensive experience in relations with Russia, today in Brussels took the duties of the deputy secretary general of NATO, announced in a press release the North Atlantic Treaty.

This was the first woman appointed to this post. The Rose Gkotmeler succeeds another senior US diplomat, who also speaks fluent Russian, Aleksandr Versmpoou, who was in this position since February 2012. It is the second time that an American appointed number two NATO.

Former Prime Minister of Norway Jens Stoltenberg is currently the secretary general of the international organization.

The Rose Gkotmeler, who was adviser to the head of American diplomacy, John Kerry, also served as secretary of state responsible for arms control and international security.

Specializing in relations with Russia, and was chief negotiator of the START treaty with Moscow to reduce the number of strategic weapons.

When Gkotmeler was proposed in March by President Barack Obama for the position of Deputy Secretary General NATO parliamentarians Republicans have accused the head of the American state that is too elastic to Russia of President Vladimir Putin.
