Veteran journalist Fikret Bila, the new director of Hurriyet

The Turkish Hurriyet newspaper appointed a new director, announced late last night, a day after the harsh criticism he received the document from the country's president Tayyip Erdogan in relation to a report published which leave hints for leverage between the government and the military.

In a statement to the Istanbul Stock Exchange, the Hurriyet states that decided to appoint a new director and a member of its board veteran journalist Fikret Bila.

The Bill will replace Sedat Ergin, the newspaper said in a brief communication without justifying this move.

The Hurriyet belongs to the Dogan group, the founder of which was asked Wednesday to appear before the court on charges of fuel smuggling.

The 80th anniversary Aydin Dogan, who until 2010 headed the group, whose activities range from the provision of information to the energy sector and is now honorary chairman, is a leading figure of Turkey's secular establishment and had long strained relations with Erdogan and the ruling Islamist Party of Justice and Development payments.

The Group is facing accusations that a decade ago ran a fuel smuggling and Dogan along with 64chrono of Isbank Ersin Ozintse face 24 years in prison on charges of criminal conspiracy, smuggling and fraud
