At least 11 people died in Caracas during the riots that broke out on Thursday night Friday, Venezuelan prosecutors announced, bringing the number of dead in the wave of protests that began three weeks ago at Early April, against President Nicolas Maduro.
In a press release issued by the prosecution, the prosecution announced "the deaths of 11 people", some of whom were electrocuted, while others were killed by bullets. The same announcement adds that 6 people were also injured "during the violent incidents that occurred" in El Vague, in the southwestern part of the capital of Venezuela.
According to a firefighter, the number of people who have died of electric shock is 8.
The incident happened when a group of people invaded a bakery to loot it in the El Vague district, according to a firefighter who did not want to be named.
The Reuters news agency reports that it has not yet been possible to confirm the exact circumstances of the incident by medical sources or other officials.
Another nine people were killed in riots that broke out on the sidelines of anti-government demonstrations in the past three weeks, where protesters clashed with security forces.
"Yesterday around 9 am or 10 am local time the situation was worrisome, a group of armed men came ... and started pillaging," said Hane Mustafa, owner of a small supermarket in El Vaja.
"The security situation is not under the control of the government. We've lost everything here, "he said.
