Russia: The situation in Syria "aggravated"

The situation in Syria "deteriorating" despite the truce in force since Monday night, today announced the Russian army accusing the Syrian rebels to be responsible for more than 50 attacks against Syrian forces and civilians within 24 hours.

"The situation in Syria is deteriorating, this is evident mainly in the provinces of Aleppo and Hama, where regiments of opposition forces take advantage of the truce to regroup, replenish with ammunition and weapons and prepare to unleash enterprise to occupy new territories" said the leader of the Russian Coordination Centre in Syria, General Vladimir Savtsenko.

"There were 55 cases in which cast fire against the positions of the government forces and the people's militia and against civilians." Only the last 24 hours "12 civilians, including two children, were killed and 40 people were injured," said quarterback Savtsenko adding that a volunteer of the Syrian Red Crescent was killed by "mortar shell attack on" the rebels.

At the same time, General Viktor Poznikir, the Russian General Staff, said Washington will "be responsible" if the truce collapse in Syria, with Russia accusing again the US for failing to meet their commitments under the ceasefire agreement.

"If the US side did not take appropriate measures to fulfill its commitments under the agreement of September 9, the US will be entirely responsible for the collapse of the ceasefire in Syrian territory," the Russian general during a press conference.

The ceasefire has been violated 199 times since Monday night came into force, he added.
