The immigration and protection of external borders in the center of the informal EU summit
On migration issues and protect the external borders are expected to focus on the 27 leaders at the informal summit Friday in Bratislava without Britain's participation, according to EU senior official. As he said himself, informing the press in Brussels, main objective of the meeting is not to discuss the process of negotiations for the United Kingdom output but to put on the table the future of the EU-27 -pleon- States. "The idea is to return to stability and hope and regain confidence. Not only between the institutions and the governments and citizens' confidence towards the EU, "he noted official, stressing the opportunity to show leaders that" received the message "about what" fear "European citizens. In this context, he said, the priority is to address the fears associated with immigration and border security and economic and social insecurity. This official also referred to the intention of the European Council President Donald Tusk to assess with "honesty" the "mistakes" and "deficits" and not choose the easy way of "optimism," although some issues there still controversy among the 27.
In particular, he said that primarily the 27 must reaffirm their determination never to repeat the "chaos" of 2015 at the EU borders. As regards, however, the "solidarity" deficit, he said, there is no expectation of completely blurred the differences between Member States in this session, but the "hope" that solution will be found before the summit for 60 years from the signing of the Treaty of Rome next March in the Italian capital. This official added that the meeting of the 27 in Bratislava opens a series of informal meetings, the so called "Bratislava" procedure to start the official summits for Brexit, with more possible then at Valletta, Malta, next January.
Finally, the EU official said the issue of free movement employs many Member States and therefore will be in Bratislava so that 27 to make a first discussion on how we could eliminate the cases of 'abuse'. As regards, not, the current Commission proposals for the common defense and to boost investment, he said that no decisions are expected, but highlighted "preparedness" 27 to put these issues on the agenda of the Summit Summit in December.
