Common line of France and Canada for climate and trade towards the US


French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Tridot have today expressed their determination to defend the Paris agreement on climate and free trade with the government of US President Donald Trump at their meeting in the margins of the G20 summit In Hamburg.

Prior to the meeting, Trident reminded journalists that his country is committed to "tackling climate change." For his part, the French president underlined that a "commitment to climate issues" is "common" at a time when (the Paris agreement) is challenged by some, "thus making an indirect reference to the Trump and its decision to Withdraws the US from this agreement.

Commenting on the controversial EU-Canada Free Trade Agreement (CETA), Macron recalled that his government commissioned a committee Thursday to look at its impact on the environment and health, in order to provide a response to its critics.

The two G20 giants, rising stars of the international political scene, have not hesitated to re-emerge their close relationship, as they had done recently at the G7 summit in Taormina.
