The EU - FYROM Association Council is meeting in Brussels


The Stabilization and Association Council between the EU and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia is currently meeting in Brussels today to review the implementation of the Agreement and the fulfillment of the political and economic criteria and financial cooperation in the framework of the Partnership for the Accession.

On the political criteria, discussions will focus on the main political developments last year. The Stabilization and Association Council will reiterate the importance of the new government's co-operation with the opposition in order to implement its commitments in line with the Prino agreement and the "Urgent Reform Priorities". The Stabilization and Association Council will discuss issues relating to: the rule of law, the protection of human rights, the role of the free media and civil society in strengthening democracy, inter-community relations, migration, regional cooperation and Good neighborly relations. Concerning the economic criteria, the Stabilization and Association Council will also discuss economic developments, particularly in the light of the targeted policy guidelines agreed in May 2017 in the "Economic Reform Program". In particular, it will examine: the role and influence of the state in the economy, the stability of the regulatory environment, the size of the informal economy, and financial cooperation

The Stabilization and Association Council will finally consider using the resources for pre-accession assistance.
