YES Swiss referendum, for telephone and electronic intercepts

The Swiss said massive "yes" today the law giving the secret services the right to monitor telephone conversations and activity of users on the internet in order to prevent possible terrorist threats.

In a referendum held on this issue for 66% of voters approved the law, according to first estimates gfs.bern polling institute.

Polls previous days gave for granted the victory of "yes", but at a much slower rate of around 53-58%.

At the same time, voters sided with 60% against the increase of pensions, as the government persuaded that the economic cost of doing so would be unbearable. Also aporrithike (63%) a citizens' initiative, which had adopted the Greens, seeking to reduce the consumption of natural resources.

The Law on the intercepts had been passed by parliament in 2015. But the Socialist Party, the Greens and other political formations such as the Pirate Party, called for a referendum expressing fears of "excesses" of services, such as those complained Edward Snowden for electronic intercepts by the American secret services
