The Turkish armed forces gave the US-led international coalition fighting against the Islamic State (IC) less than an hour before they launched raids against allied Kurdish forces in Iraq and Syria, a spokesman said today.
"There was less than an hour from the time of the alert and the wounds," said Miss John Dorian during a videoconference at the Pentagon. "This was not enough time and that was a warning, of course, and not a coordination as we would expect from a partner and ally in the fight against IK."
According to Miss Dorian, the US-led international coalition "made it clear to the Turks that the time given (...) was inadequate to guarantee the security of our forces on the ground."
He noted that US soldiers were at a point that lasted 10 kilometers from one area that was affected and that the Turkish side's notification was too vague and did not allow for an effective response.
