The United States must "regain an active role" in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sissy said today during a meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas, expected Wednesday in Washington.
The head of the Egyptian state received today in Cairo his Palestinian counterpart, who will meet on May 3rd with US President Donald Trumb for talks on the resumption of the Middle East peace process.
Sisi stressed "the importance of seeing the US recover a proactive role in efforts to resume negotiations" between Palestinians and Israelis, according to a statement. He advocated "the need to step up efforts to achieve a settlement of the Palestinian issue," he adds.
In a phone conversation with Trab in mid-March, Abbas clearly spelled out the two-state solution, which the US president showed to take away.
Welcoming the Israeli prime minister, Trabp stated in February that the US, a historic player in the Israeli-Palestinian peacekeeping effort, is not interested in this solution, thus abandoning the US diplomacy line that has been formally adopted by the US presidents at least Since 2001.
