The powerful hurricane Knock Tin, accompanied by gusty winds struck today the eastern part of the Philippines, where tens of thousands of people fled coastal areas.
The eye of the hurricane arrived on the island of Catanduanes in the Bicol region on Sunday evening local time, with wind gusts reaching 235 km / h, said the weather bureau at Twitter.
The authorities had warned of the possibility waves of 2.5 meters to hit the region, as well as the possibility of landslides and severe flooding in Bicol peninsula and neighboring islands.
In torrential rain, more than 100,000 people have already fled their homes on Christmas Day, while the final number could reach hundreds of thousands, identified by the authorities.
