The police authorities in Spain will take additional security measures in the Madrid public places during the celebrations for the New Year, announced today the municipality of the Spanish capital.
Increased measures taken on the basis of recommendations made by the police on the occasion of the terrorist attack in Berlin that killed 12 people last week.
Fences and police vans will be placed in areas where large crowds gather, particularly on the roads leading to the square Puerta del Sol, where traditionally Madrileños celebrate the advent of the New Year.
Since July 2015 more than 170 people have been arrested in Spain accused of terrorist activities, many of them because they tried to recruit new members of the Islamic State.
