The Swedish government has announced the end of systematic border controls with Denmark

The Swedish authorities today announced the abolition of systematic border controls with Denmark, a measure imposed in January 2016 to reduce the number of refugees and migrants entering the country.

The Swedish government has also decided to strengthen police and funeral facilities to oversee these borders, as Swedish Interior Minister Anders Engen and Infrastructure Minister Anna Johannsson told a press conference in Stockholm.

"The government is of the opinion that border controls are always necessary and their extent needs to be expanded," Engen said. "We need control of the Swedish border to maintain security," the government said in a statement, adding: "We need to compensate for the abolition of identity verification checks with a permanent reinforcement of border controls."

Audit intensification measures include, inter alia, surveillance cameras and X-ray control of cross-border vehicles in accordance with the principles.

However, the authorities have decided to end systematic checks on identifying documents for those crossing the districts between Copenhagen and the city of Malmö, or between Helsingor, the northeastern part of Denmark and Helsingborg, in the southwest of Sweden, as Johansson .
