In favor of "transit areas" to deal with the mass apo Merkel refugees
The conservative German Chancellor Angela Merkel defended the proposal to create 'regions of transit "at the German border, which will be checked refugees and migrants and immediately sent back those who have no hope to be granted asylum in the country, conveying to that will bring intense pressure on the lesser party of the ruling coalition, the Social Democrats (SPD), to accept the idea.
Germany finds it difficult to cope with the influx of more than 800,000 refugees and immigrants this year. Senior conservatives have escalated their pressure on Merkel to take steps to reduce the number of arrivals.
Speaking in Hamburg, at an event of the Union of Christian youth (CDU), her party, Merkel stressed that the approach so far was based on Christian values and respect for human dignity.
But, she added, "that does not mean we will offer shelter to everyone." German Chancellor apologies that those who arrive in the country in search of better life and not at real risk be returned.
Moreover, Angela Merkel announced that its government will put forward further measures to deal with the mass influx of refugees, including the creation of so-called transit areas at land borders of Germany.
The center-right politician said that the EU rules now provide for such a measure only at the external borders, but in exceptional circumstances in Brussels have allowed the enforcement and internal borders, for a limited time.
