Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US President Barack Obama spoke by telephone to strengthen cooperation between their countries against jihadist Islamic State (IR) and what can be done about the Russian military activities in Syria, announced today Erdogan's office.

"The two leaders reiterated their common objective to increase the military pressure on Dae (Islamic State) and to strengthen the moderate opposition to create the necessary conditions for a political transition in Syria," the statement said Erdogan's office.

During the telephone conversation they had during the night, Obama also expressed his condolences for the victims of double suicide attack last Saturday in Ankara and the US solidarity with Turkey against threats it faces.

The communication of the office of Turkish President also added that the two leaders agreed on the need to quickly put an end to the attacks of the armed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in Turkey.
