Merkel calls for sober negotiations with Britain
The German Chancellor Angela Merkel said today that it will be carried out sober negotiations with Britain for its withdrawal from the European Union, stressing that talks with the "close partner" must be conducted in a good atmosphere.
Merkel said it would be no great rush to the start of Britain's output process by the EU.
Merkel chose the soft approach, despite the determination shown by the foreign ministers of six EU founding member states asking for a quick divorce from Britain, exerting of pressure to initiate the procedure for leaving the EU, following the vote of the British to leave the European family, an outcome that manages the biggest blow to the European project from the Second World War.
"The negotiations should be conducted in a good atmosphere, that shows professionalism," Merkel told a news conference after a meeting of the conservative party in Chermansvernter outside Potsdam, west of Berlin.
"Britain will remain a close partner with whom we associate economic relations," said the Chancellor, adding that there is no rush for Britain to rely on Article 50 of the EU Treaty, to initiate the checkout process by the Union. "Honestly, you should not take an eternity, it is true, but I will not ask persistently now a short timeframe."
"As Britain does not do it as an agreement (between London and the EU) there, Britain remains a full member of the EU," Merkel said recalling that voters said they "do not want to be member of the EU member the common market ".
