Turkey: Sentencing of 244 people for the protests of 2013 in the park Geza


An Istanbul court convicted 244 people for involvement in the demonstrations of 2013, which began against the redevelopment of a park in Istanbul and became political unrest in many cities of the country unprecedented islamosyntiritikis against the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Prime Minister.

Among the charges brought in 255 people was damaged public property and participating in illegal demonstrations, while according to the report, the judicial authorities proposed penalties up to 11 years imprisonment.

The criminal court sentenced 244 people to prison terms of 2-14 months. Just four people were acquitted, while the categories that burdens other defendants joined in a separate folder.

Four doctors were sentenced to ten months' imprisonment "because it fouled a mosque", which used to provide first aid to demonstrators were injured after clashes with police during demonstrations.
The President Erdogan, who had described the protesters terrorists had said that some of the protesters had consumed alcohol in the mosque.
