Blinken (USA): The Russian intervention in Syria would lead Moscow to a standstill

The intervention of Moscow in the Syrian conflict will inadvertently lead to lead Russia to a halt, which would however give the incentive to work for a political transition in Syria, said Deputy Foreign Minister today US Anthony Blinken in Manama.

"The swamp will grow and deepen, pulling even further within this Russia. Russia will be considered teaming with Assad, Hezbollah, Iran, alienating millions of Sunnis in Syria, the region and indeed in Russia itself" Blinken noted a security conference held in Manama, Bahrain.

But as Russia's involvement can increase the strength which Moscow to Assad, the conflict will create also "a forced motive for Russia to work for, not against, a political transition" also noted Blinken as the Athens Press Agency reported.

"Russia can not support a military attack against any opposing the brutal Assad government. The cost will grow daily in terms of economic and political interests, as these security issues," he added.

At the same time on Iran, the American Assistant Secretary said that the US continues after the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program that concluded Tehran with great powers "focus" very precisely their attention on, as he described them, objectionable Iran's actions in the region, among which is also the support for terrorism.

Speaking at this regional conference on security in Manama, the Blinken also noted that the US commitment to the Middle East, and is deeper than ever, it is also broad and extends beyond the military aspect and emphasized that there is no military solution in Syria .

Yesterday the US have revealed their plans for the development of the first ground troops to Syria to fight the Islamic State.

Finally with regard to Yemen, the Blinken noted that the citizens of this country not afford to wait any longer for peace and the need "to all parties" to allow it to reach humanitarian aid to all who need it.
