Three days of mourning in Romania
Three days of national mourning declared by the Romanian government in memory of the 27 people killed in a nightclub in Bucharest when a fire broke out during a rock concert was accompanied by a fireworks show.
This is one of the worst tragedies that have occurred for decades in the Romanian capital.
At least 184 people were injured when more than 500 young people were trampled trying to reach the only exit naitklamp Colectiv risk was housed in the basement of a former shoe factory.
Officials and eyewitnesses said that fireworks were fired into the room.
Deputy Interior Minister Raed Arafat said that even 17 was not recognized by the 27 dead and 146 injured are still hospitalized in the hospitals where they were taken. Most bear burns, inhaled fumes or injured in trampling.
Arafat noted that the address of the club did not ask permission to use fireworks or had given free by the fire service to use indoors.
"Unfortunately, the death toll may rise, if we take into account the severity of the condition of some injured people," the minister added after the extraordinary cabinet meeting at noon.
Romanian president Klaus Ioanis visited the wounded in hospital and lit a candle outside the nightclub. About 600 volunteers rushed to donate blood.
Prime Minister Victor Ponta instructed to make checks on all the country naitklamp to see if they comply with the fire safety regulations.
"People were running to leave the club were trampled," said a young man who escaped, losing only his shoes.
A woman who was injured very slightly, described how the room engulfed in flames. "Within five seconds, the roof was burning. The next three, we ran to the door," said the television station Antena 3.
Condolence message sent by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. "I am sorry deeply that so many young lives lost so tragically.
